At a moment in world history when hostility and insolence have become symbols of power and respect, Renda Writer may be the ultimate revolutionary.
Over the past two years, the Miami-based muralist, who ran cross-country at Coral Springs High School, has covered more than 60 walls — from Boynton Beach to Boston, Detroit to Dallas, Los Angeles and Allapattah — with a disarmingly simple phrase, “world peace,” repeated hundreds of times on each wall.
And now, Writer is taking his plea to Europe, leaving from Miami on July 31, with plans to paint murals in London, Paris and Rimini, Italy. The trip, his first time in Europe, runs through Aug. 25. He’ll be in Paris for his 40th birthday.
Writer chose London and Paris because of their strong street-art communities. Rimini is one of those serendipitous detours that have defined the project, a mix of social-media buzz-building and happenstance.
